Recipe: Nut Free Bliss Balls

Most schools and daycare centres don’t allow nuts due to allergies, so I was on the hunt for a nut free version. I found this one with sunflower seeds and cacao but I find cacao has too much caffeine in for Arlo and I so I decided to swap it out for Carob. They are delicious and no heart palpitations for me and no hyperness from Arlo, win win!

Ingredients

1 cup of sunflower seeds

2 Tbs carob powder

10-12 dates

½ cup coconut flakes

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla powder or essence

Method

  • Soak the dates for approx 5 mins in warm water

  • Whizz up the sunflower seeds in a food processor for about a minute so they have a sandy consistency

  • Add the dates, carob powder, coconut flakes, cinnamon and vanilla extract

  • Roll into balls and then put in the fridge for an hour

  • This should make about 8-10 balls - sometimes I’ll double the recipe if it’s going to be a big week!

nut free - bliss balls - school approved - carob - snacks - lunch box - nutritious - kids - caffeine - healthy
